Blue Lagoon with Baby on Boat

10 March 2022

“Babies and adventurous vacations are incompatible.”

“We should live a calm life until our baby grows.”

Quite widespread points of view, aren’t they?

It surely is possible to pull off an active holiday with a baby. But for a limited amount of time. In our case, all our family adventures are usually built around Alex’s sleeps (a baby with enough sleep = a mother with enough sleep = a happy family). Below I want to tell you about our short voyage to the Blue Lagoon. A voyage to remember.

Alex had got acquainted with water transport just two days before she turned 10 months, expressing enormous curiosity and readiness to discover new, and thus making us extremely happy.

Instead of spending a lazy day at the beach in Paphos, we decided to head to Akamas (it is still a family tradition to visit it every year).

Buggy with a baby on board? Surely not.

But taking a boat seemed a perfect idea. Gliding on the waves of the indigo deep towards the Blue Lagoon of our favorite peninsula was just right. Yes, I still consider Akamas to be the best place in Cyprus.

The decision was spontaneous, so one by one, we called all local boat hire centers in Latchi. The majority already had neither a spare boat, nor a yacht for us to sail for a couple of hours. Some were offering to join a big company of tourists on a large boat with a captain. A ferry with fifty people on pink flamingo floats? Too fussy, too many people, too much pink…

However, George Watersports managed to snatch a boat for us despite the short notice.

Aaand… It was worth it! Yet, two hours were not enough to organize a “picnic on water”, especially with a little baby.

The way from the Latchi Harbor to the Blue Lagoon took around 25 minutes, and the same was the way back.

One hour spent in the Lagoon, and the main activities included:

  • Applying the sunscreen on Alex’s skin;
  • Feeding the baby;
  • Changing the diaper;
  • Swimming with the baby and entertaining her;
  • Feeding her again;
  • Reapplying the sunscreen.

Repeat the list.

We managed to take a swim ourselves a couple of times, but had to return too quickly.

And Alex fell asleep just in my arms on the way back! The second sleep on a boat was definitely a brand new sleep experience for us.

To sum up:

  • The cost of the boat hire was 88 euros for two hours and 25 euros for the fuel. 113 euros overall;
  • The engine power of our boat was 65 hp – enough to smoothly jump in the waves. However, for those interested, there were also 150 hp boats;
  • In order to turn into the captain of that boat (up to 100 hp), a regular driving license was enough;
  • In order to moor the boat to the shore, we needed to call a crew member on the radio, after which they sailed to us to do the job;
  • Throughout the whole trip, the George Watersports team approached us a few times to make sure we were doing good and check if we needed any help. Like and respect!
  • With George Watersports, it was also possible to book a tour to the Lagoon with a captain (and fifty inflatable flamingos);

After this adventure our Aphrodite fell asleep at 6 pm and slept through the whole night like a rock. And we? We fell asleep as well, but hunger woke us up at around 9 pm, and we went hunting for a burger.

The first stop was surely Val’s Place

Sincerely,
